Michelle Kunz

The Duane L. Ottenstroer Legacy Scholarship Essay Contest sponsored by Florida Prepaid honors the many years of service by longtime Florida Prepaid College Board Chairman Duane L. Ottenstroer, who resides in St. Johns County, Florida.

Michelle Kunz is the first winner of the 2017 Duane L. Ottenstroer Legacy Scholarship as a 12th grade student at Allen D. Nease High School, St. Augustine, Florida. She is currently successfully enrolled as a freshman at the University of North Florida. Her story is unique having supported her herself since before the age of 16 and having worked many part-time jobs to make ends meet.

Ms. Kunz’s essay was titled “Human Nature.” The essay explores how helping others can truly change an individual and their community.

“The unity of a community can change the world. In fact, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
